Exiles Take Loss at Rocky Gorge

October 19, 2019

PERC 22, Gorge 31

A tumultuous 80 minutes for the men of the Exiles as they took their second loss of the season against Rocky Gorge this past Saturday. Gorge wasted no time building a quick lead, claiming their opportunity at an early penalty kick. At the ten minute mark, Gorge’s consistent attack led to the first try of the match. Five minutes later, our field general Guy Lopresti was sent to the sin bin for ten minutes for side entry into a ruck. Inside center, John Davis, left the pitch twelve minutes later and replaced by the hard running center Jeremy Purchase. At the 30 minute mark, Gorge scored another try and hit the conversion.

At that point the Exiles, shifted gears and wanted to play more rugby in the opponent’s half.  The next kickoff Grayson charged down the scrum-half and made an aggressive tackle causing a turnover. Playing off that ball, Culver hammered in a try just to the right of the posts, Kenny easily kicked a successful conversion. Potomac was now in the match. Shortly after, Kenny added to our count with an accurate penalty kick. Then, Gorge came back down the field to attempt punching one more try before the half, but Guy Lopresti redeemed his earlier infraction and held up the ball carrier over the line to close the first 40.

Potomac made some impact subs at the half way mark bringing in Juice for Joanel and Bill Whalen for Brendan Porter.  Bill quickly followed with a twenty meter run straight down the center of the pitch, serving a pearl of an offload from the deck for an oncoming Grayson who dove over for another PERC try.

Gorge responded in kind by following up just a minute later with another try of their own. Chris Polit made his season debut coming in at prop for big Dom. His presence bolstered the front-row, allowing starting prop, Pat Love to score a third PERC try  at the 78th minute. Unfortunately the late efforts wouldn’t be enough as full time blew; 22-31 Rocky Gorge.
