Man of the Match: Ballah
It was a cold St. Patrick’s Day and PERC traveled north on 95 to take on Schuylkill River. PERC started off strong with good ball movement and solid, sustained possession. First on the board was Minchik, who put the ball across the line after a bruising run from 10 meters out. The conversion was put through the uprights by Will. 7 – 0 PERC. After some back forth play by both sides, it was PERC again crossing the line with Kenny taking an offload from team captain Guy and fighting through contact to complete the score. Conversion missed 12 – 0 PERC. Schuylkill answered back shortly afterward scoring off an 8 man pick to put 5 points on the board but missed the conversion. Guy was able to score off a pick later in half, powering over Schuylkill’s defense. Ballah, man of the match, capped off the half with a try on the sideline after some good ball movement by PERC. Half score 22-5 PERC.
In the second half, the PERC defense had to step up to protect the lead. After some possession against a stout SR defense, Blaser made great run through a gap, reaching the try line untouched. Conversion good, 29 – 5. PERC focused and put up a strong defensive effort the rest of the match, but Schuylkill was able to find the try zone late in the game. Final score 29-10.
As the final whistle blew, the hospitality began as Yards Brewing Co. provided the beverages and SR showed PERC why they were the city of Brotherly Love. We want to thank them for a great match and great hospitality. PERC looks forward to keeping the momentum going next week versus The Washington Irish at home.
