PERC(D1) 41 – Washington Irish(D1) 26
It was another great day for rugby in the DMV as PERC made the short drive to Haines Point to take on the Washington Irish. From the first whistle, PERC knew it would be a battle as both teams began the match with solid tackling and hard running. Making his fall debut, Kevin Kimble was a stand out on both sides of the ball. Whether it was making tackles, hitting rucks, or gaining yards with some fantastic line breaks, his presence was felt throughout the match.
PERC started off the scoring with Dante Lopresti who, after a fantastic run by Kenny Rothman, took a 9 ball in for the score. Quigs made the conversion, 7-0 PERC. Not to be outdone by his younger brother, Guy Lopresti was next on the board. After Quigs drew a penalty close in, Guy punched the ball across the line with a quick tap and go. The conversion was missed, 12-0 PERC. The forwards brought an intensity to this match that has not been seen yet on the season. After multiple pick and gos by the pack, sucking the defense in, the ball was spun out to Blaser who blew past the defense and crossed the line, 17-0 PERC. A few minutes later it was the backs again with a try for PERC. After sealing his defender, Kenny offloaded to Jonell who took the ball 50 meters in for the score. Quigs finished it off converting the points after, 24-0 PERC.
After halftime, the scoring continued for PERC, as Big Dom powered through off a crash ball to the weak side. Quigley with the with conversion, PERC 31-0. Quigs was next to score, converting a penalty kick, PERC 34-0. Although down, The Irish were far from finished with the match. After 60 minutes of play, PERC’s strong defensive stand began slip as The Irish put in 4 consecutive tries in with 3 conversions made, making the score PERC 34-26. PERC had one try left in the match and it went to the young prop, Dante Lopresti, who pushed the ball over the line from a pick and go. Final score: PERC 41 Irish 26!
