Final Result: 33-22 PERC win
September 14, 2019, Washington, DC: Your Potomac Exiles cracked open their Autumnal MAC campaign with a victory over a steadfast Washington Irish side on a breezy afternoon at Haines point over the weekend. The Irish started with purpose and scored after building phases in Exiles territory..
The Exiles returned the favor shortly after building off well-executed set-piece work and a few forward crashes with Grayson Haynes punching the pill in from a few meters out. Potomac kept the pressure on with a crafty boot from John Davis, putting one over the top for Joanel Joseph to collect and dive behind the sticks. The Irish were not to be discouraged, John Stapleton put a few deep in our territory eventually paying off with a hard run by Darien Pickett who put it down by the posts.
Shortly before the half, the Exiles would lose Fly-Half Kenny Rothman to a yellow card awarded for some extra-curricular horseplay around the ruck.
In the 2nd half, the Exiles put another five-pointer over the whitewash after a full team effort and nice line-out work. The Irish would score again by the hand of some cheeky work by the Irish Fly-half, throwing a clever dummy and diving in for a suave finish. With the game tied, Kenny went to the boot and kicked one deep into their territory, with a tight foot race abound, an Irish player obstructed Kenny which resulted in a penalty try for the visitors. With the match in our hands, the Potomac Exiles pushed down the field once more with good purchase. Firmly grasping victory with a brazen maul as Bill Whalen slammed one final try over the line with a minute left on the clock.
Man of the Match Kenny Rothman for his precision kicking for field position and calm nerves during penalty kicks and conversions.
